Note: Guthrie in the early 70s. As a teenager during WWII, Lucy used to sneak out to dance with soldiers at the USO. She and her friends would gather in the bathroom under the fire station and put on makeup. There was a shortage of red dye #2, so they would wet jellybeans or whatever other candy they could find and use it as makeshift lipstick. There was also a shortage of nylon, so they would use leg makeup and draw lines down the backs of each others' legs to sport the appearance of real nylons. Now THAT's supporting the troops! At her funeral, one of her sons gave a eulogy that was best described as a "you"logy. As a result of his strange ramblings, only 4 of the 7 siblings are still on speaking terms. Okay, only 4 of the 7 were ever always on speaking terms. The other 3 (note: all boys) just floated in and out of insanity. BIRTH: Born at home in Ellwood City.
