Note: immigrated form Belgium and settle in WI. Her father was a successful farmer. Amanda was the youngest child, and her father died when she was only 4 years old. She only got to attend school until the 3rd grade. She had to go to work at an early age. When she was 12 she was sent to work as a governess for a man and his wife who ran a school in Green Bay, there she learned to type. When his children no longer needed her, he made arrangements for Amanda to work for a couple in Wausakee Wisconson. There she met Harry Cole. After they had married and had children of thier own her widowed mother came to live with them also. Harry died in his 50's leaving Amanda to care for their many children. She was an industrious woman and did will to provide for her family. Her children remember her as being a smart and savvy business woman. She ran a restaurant in Green Bay that looked out over the water. It is unknonn if she owned the restaurant or managed it for someone else. In her later years she managed an Old folks home. She was well loved by the residents there, although she was older than most of them. She would arrange for the residents to go to the orchards to pick apples. Her grandsons remember them coming in bus and truckloads and they would have to help all these old folks in and out of the trees.
