a. Note:   Uncle of Marcus F. Wash Joe and Laura Yates were married when both were quiet young. They worked for Ray Allan at his sawmill, and later for different ranchers. Joe filed on a homestead and later sold it. Joe was a good hand at roping so was asked to help at many branding because of this ability. He was a fine horse handler as he had learned much of this from his father. Laura and Joe had three sons and four daughters. During the depression years they moved to Idaho, then on to Spokane, Washington. Laura still lives there but Joe is buried at Spokane. From the book Shifting Scenes-Carter County Area
