All the stones of the first four persons named above had footstones also. The four pairs of stones were brought from Putnam and Parsons of Beardstown at the price of $75 from the estate of Washington WILMOT. No stone has been found for Permelia SMITH. In the fall of 1981, the stones of Elizabeth WILMOT and Jemina HURLY were re-set with the help of James Burnside, who was then the president of the Schuyler Jail Museum. TRINITY CHURCH PARISH BAPTISM, 1783 Dorothea Bedinger Clymer (View posts) Posted: 5 Jun 2000 7:00AM Classification: Query Surnames: DeGLEU, GALLON, WETHERTLED, WETHERLLED, WILMOT My third grt-grandfather, Washington WILMOT, s/o George and Nancy WILMOT, was baptized at Trinity Church Parish, New York City, 26 October 1783. Sponsors were George GALLON, Nicholas WETHERTLED or WETHERLLED and Margaret DeGLEU. Family tradition states that Washington's parents died of cholera when he was very young. At the time of the baptism he may have been three years old. Sponsors' surnames appear to all be Dutch. It seems likely they may have been maternal relatives. The WILMOT family men were involved as boatmen on the Erie Canal nearly entire 19th century. Land for the canal came from The Holland Land Company. Were the above sponsors involved with The Holland Land Company? Any suggestions as to how identity of sponsors may be ascertained? Any knowledge of these surnames?
