  Twenty two children and grandchildren of Mrs. Waterhouse met on July 21st. at the house of the Rev. John Waterhouse, Clitheroe to celebrate the 80th anniversary of her birthday.
 Ater dinner a substantial pair of gold mounted spectacles enclosed in a superb case, on which was engraved �Mrs Waterhouse from her loving children on her 80th birthday� were presented to the dear noble mother.
 Mrs. Waterhouse will be remembered by many in Lancaster. Her husband, Mr Richard Waterhouse, farmer, Crow Dubs, Heysham, removing there to Quernmore Park Farm, and in 1840 settling down at the Brookholm Farm which was more commonly known as Waterhouse�s Farm, and when he died his widow was left with ten children, the youngest a few months old, and the eldest about twenty years (the two eldest being girls). Mrs Waterhouse struggled bravely until her children were all grown up, the youngest having graduated and taken his B. A. at Cambridge. In July 1888, four of the ten children (Richard, Jane, Isabella, Eleanor) had passed away. The eldest surviving member of the family had for some years been at the Antipodes, but at this time her husband was in this country on business, and attended the interesting gathering. In July 1888, The living members of Mrs. Waterhouse numbered 65, viz., six children, forty five grandchildren, and forteen great grandchildren, Mrs. Waterhouse died at Lancaster 14th January 1897.
