Note: [Brderbund WFT Vol. 14, Ed. 1, Tree #0263, Date of Import: Sep 5, 1998] A BIOGRAPHY OF ALONZO LONNIE BINYON by Conrad Binyon Alonzo Lonnie Binyon was born on the 27th of February 1882, in Weatherford, Texas, the same place where his mother died 13 years later. He was the son of John Westley Binyon by John's second wife L. Elizebeth James. It is known that he had half- brothers W.A. Binyon, Albert Binyon, and James Binyon, also a half-sister Lou, perhaps a diminutive for Louise; all children older than he from John W.'s first wife. Information about his schooling and earlier years is sadly lacking but we establish Alonzo Lonnie Binyon in 1900 as a man married to a Mary Alice King maintaining a household in either Chico, or Bridgeport, Texas. The birth dates of their eight children are dutifully recorded in a family bible page, as are the places, but for sure the location of child three, William A. Binyon's birth is noted on his birth certificate as Chico, Texas, just up the road from Bridgeport, Texas, the place noted in the bible where the first seven children were educated. Apparently Father Alonzo, and Mother Alice remained in the area until 1925 when they picked up and moved to Cache, Oklahoma. All moves apparently motivated by the family seeking better economic conditions. Sylvia A. Binyon, their last child, died in Cache, Oklahoma on January 15, 1926, age 2 years, 2 months, and 15 days. The family remained in Cache, Oklahoma, until the 1930's. In the 1930's, Alonzo moved the family again. This time to Paris, Arkansas where he found employment as a coal miner. Alonzo Lonnie or A.L. as he was called subsequently bought a farm in Driggs, Arkansas and worked it a bit. It stayed in the family for quite a while after his death. Pictures of Alonzo L. Binyon show him as a good-looking but serious man, none of them with him depicting a smile. The impression of the family members is that Alonzo Lonnie was a stern short-tempered man, prone to carry grudges. He interested in radio programs entertainment, it being said he'd postpone milking the cows until he'd heard the current Lone Ranger episode. He was not uncaring in that he traveled to California during a crisis suffered by his son, William A. who it is understood left the family environment in his mid-teens due to his father.
