Note: hich was witnessed by his very young grand daughter and therefore likely to be inaccurate) suggests he died in 1915, aged 91 years, and therefore that he was born about 1824. His marriage certificate says he was 26 years old in 1862, and therefore born about 1836, the 1851 census suggests he was born circa 1834 (the same year as his sister, Ann), whilst the following biographical entry in Aldine’s Centennial History of NSW suggests he was born in 1830. “Frank Paine, butcher, born at Rye, Sussex, England, in 1830 and learned his trade there, arrived in Sydney in 1857 by the ship Nimrod and settled for a time in Newtown. For 10 years after leaving that, he followed his trade at Canterbury and in 1866 removed to Liverpool and commenced business on his own account. For a short time he had a partner, but the firm dissolved and he has since carried on alone. He is one of the most successful businessmen in his line in Liverpool, having by sheer hard work, perseverance and industry, made for himself a comfortable competence. He was one of the first aldermen of the borough and sat continuously for three terms, then retired, preferring to give his sole attention to business. He is married and is father of 3 sons and 3 daughters.” Frank owned property at various locations in Liverpool. The 1885 Parliamentary Return of Landholders records him in possession of 235 acres, with 13 horses, 10 head of cattle, 50 sheep and 80 pigs. He owned a parcel of land of approximately 44 acres lying between Hoxton Park Road Liverpool and Scott St, Liverpool, and adjoining the Liverpool Park (possibly referred to as Paine’s Paddocks). He also owned a plot of 2 roods 39 perches west of George St and south of Moore St.
