Notes
a. Note:   George apparently left home sometime around 12 April 1886 (a note written in his sister's autograph book). From Margaret Jane Armstrong's autograph book: "April the 12, 1886 Dear Sister Fairwell sister now we must part it may be for ever (and may be not)* and if my back you no more see remember that you have a brothers love that will for ever last and when you kneel upon your knee always think of me is the wish of your brother. George H. Armstrong Oakland Douglas OR * this was added by Margaret The above was written and below it in print: "George H. Armstrong Fairwell, Sister" He appears to have been married to Catherine in Clackamas County, Oregon and they had a daughter named Leatha. After they divorced, he returned to his parents home in Oakland, Oregon sometime prior to his marriage to Sarah Jane 1895. Leatha is found in the 1910 census with her mother. Some of the family remember the daughter, probably on visits to her father. I have been unable to find anything except a 1910 census entry I am still trying to figure out how he and Sarah Jane met. She may have been visiting relatives in Grants Pass and Jacksonville and their paths crossed. During his life, George worked as a day laborer, possibly for the railroad; a kiln burner operator making clay pipe and a farmer. The family moved from Oregon to Washington sometime between 1904 and 1906, than back to Portland, Oregon about 1933. George and Sarah lived in the same house for the next 15 years, until their deaths. George died on Sarah's 75th birthday from pancreatic cancer. .
