Notes
a. Note:   Notes for Thomas Wilheim Backstrom: Died under the wheels of a freight train in the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad freight yards in Glassport, PA. A brakeman in the employ of the railroad for 26 years, he was believed to have been killed instantly. He was last seen working on a yard switching operation, and apparently fell from a moving tank car under the wheel truck. Officials of the railroad said the shifter crew discovered the tragedy when they found his crushed body under the car. Members of the crew said they began and investigation after they received no response to signals. Glassport police reported the victim had been dragged about three freight car lengths. Dr. C.A. Rankin, a physician for the railroad pronounced him dead. Patrolman, Al Stevens, who aided railroad officials in investigation the accident, set the time of the mishap at approximately 9:30 DST. His body was interred 14 June 1952 Saturday at 2:30 PM in his home, West Newton Cemetery, Rev. E.M. Miller, Minister.
