He was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Fairchance. He graduated from George Township High School and the University of Pittsburgh. He served in the Army Air Force and the Air Force during World War II. He was a lifelong musician that played in the Fairchance Firemen's Band, Military Squadron Band and the Pitt Band. W.E. spent more than 30 years as an Industrial Engineer for US Steel. He was a loyal Pitt fan who often said his blood was blue and gold. He was best known for his sense of humor and apologies to anyone that he may have offended. He is survived by his wife of more than 59 years, Elizabeth Burens Cooley, for which he was her primary caregiver. He is also survived by four children, Gloria (Michael) Blicha, Leslie, Claudia and Warren "Mel" (Janet) Cooley; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Lancaster and Kathryn Miller; and brother, John Cooley. He was predeceased by sisters, Gertrude, Mary Alice and Annetta; and brothers, Elmer "Bud" and Wilbur. Friends received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, Pleasant Hills, where a service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, W.E. requests memorial donations be made to children's hospital since he marched there every football season with the Pitt Band; or the Salvation Army, who provided housing and food to him while he was in the service (and they have a band). As he always said, "Roger and out 10-4."
