Note: On a visit to what was reported to be the OLD Chedester Homestead, and reported by one Harry Roberts, Author of the Book, "Greene County" I failed to find anything of real Importance. The Cite is a flat spot off the main road, near sinking Creek off to the southwest of greater Greeneville. An old barn marks the spot next to the site of the original home. Harry and I walked around to a grassy knoll, about 200 yards or so, across the wash, to the north, to a small stand of trees. There we located about 10-15 headstones, with only 3 or four with ledgible inscriptions but not of the Chedesters or any recognizable names. Rebecca Pierce, d. 1886, and Susannah Brooks, d. 1869, shoud be buried there. The property is owned by some people who now live across the street from the site.
Harry reports the following regarding the old "Cabin," that was once home to the Chedisters but the dates of their residence are not known for sure at this writing. It seems that a man from North Caroline saw the Cabin on a visit to the area when he learned that , to preserve it, someone had built a barn around it. The man, had the barn taken down, took the cabin apart piece by piece and moved it to North Caroline where it is part of an historic exhibit today. I will communicate with this man at a later date and finish this report with his name and the exact location of the cabin and of course, put a picture of the cabin into this file. rb
