Elliott, filed application July 15, 1878. She was a resident of Montgomery County, P.O. Winona. In June 1878 before R. B. Browne, Clerk of Circuit Court, appeared Mrs. M. A. Elliott, aged 54, widow of Alexander Elliott. She discribed him at the time of enlistment as about 19 years of age; occupation Farmer, Birthplace ___County Georgia, height 5'__" dark hair, fair complextion. She married him in Choctaw Co. Mississippi, 23 April 1854 by Rev. McNutt, M. G. Her name before marriage was Mary A Carver. She had been previously married to William Carver. From time of marriage they lived in Carroll Co. and Montgomery Co. William H. Holmes, aged 32 and James Collins, aged 43; testified in Montgomery Co. 28 Aug. 1880 for the widow. Boswell Sommerfield Elliott made an afidavit that he is the oldest son of Applicant by Alexander Elliott, and that he will be 25 years old Sept. 21 1880, States that the Courthouse in Choctaw Co. burned and marriage records were destroyed. Sept. 2, 1880; Robert Shumake and Izillah Tinell made affidavit that they were present at marriage of Alexander Elliott of Carroll Co. and Mrs. Mary A. Carver of Choctaw Co. in April 1854, ceremony was performed by James McNutt. Said Robert Shumake was 21 years of age at the time and Izillah Tinell was 27 at the time. J. T. Dunn, J. P. Commissioner of Pensions wrote the Postmaster at Winona (who replied that Mrs. Mary A. Elliott lived about four miles from Winona) " I have just been informed by the son of the Petitioner named within (Mary A. Elliott) that she died on the 15th day of Febuary Last, (1885). D. L.
