Boththese brothers participated in the Battle of Sabine Pass which prevented the Union Army from sailing up the Sabine River and occupying Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas. This hindered the Yankees from attacking the Confederate Army from the south and contributed to the Confederate Victory of General Taylor over General Banks at Mansfield on April 8, 1864.
