 Born Aug. 5, 1927 in Camptown, Pa., he was the son of the late Floyd and Grace Benninger Hendershot.
 He was employed at Remington Rand in Elmira, N.Y., for 25 years, then was owner and operator of Hendershot Texaco Gas Station on Chemung Street in Waverly from 1965 until his retirement in 1986.
 He was a member of the Waverly Moose Lodge No. 1490.
 He enjoyed woodworking, farming, hunting and fishing and was known for his homemade beans at family cookouts.
 He is survived by: a daughter, Doris Marie and Steve Sackett of Barton; son, Bernard "Corky" and Colette Hendershot of Mt. Pleasant, N.C.; eight grandchildren, three of whom he raised, Sue Miller Jordan of Waverly, N.Y., Casey Ward of Barton and Dallas Maslinski of Barton; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Berneda and Donald Rhodes of Sayre; and several nieces and nephews.
 He was predeceased by: his wife, Veda, on March 12, 2002; two sisters, Madeline McDonald and Jean Heeman; and his best friend, Leo McDonald.
 Friends may call Tuesday, April 15 from 6-7 p.m. at the Blauvelt Funeral Home, 445 Waverly St., Waverly.
 Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Randy Stilson, assistant pastor of the Athens Wesleyan Church, officiating.
 Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens.
 Memorials may be directed to one's favorite charity.
