a. Note:   N40 When Jennie was about 22 she and her family (mother and father)moved from Doniphan County to the Seneca area (Nemaha County). They had a 120 acre farm with a creek through it where the grandchildren ultimately (Jennies children) would cool their feet in the hot summer time - Lucy recalls.
 the only refrigeration was the basement and a spring house. Lucy would sleep in a small room off the kitchen when she visited, with just enough room for a small bed. the window looked out onto a pear tree and after looking at them so long she ate several but "the results were not good."

b. Note:   N41 in Lucy's 1920 report - Jennie was born in Andrew County MO but when she was 2 or 3 months old she was taken by her parents to a farm 6 miles northeast of Troy, Doniphan County, KS.and remained there until the family moved to Nemaha County. It reads as if they dropped her off with someone else but I imagine Lucy means the family moved to Doniphan County before settling in Nemaha County near Seneca.

c. Note:   N42 Jennie had taught school in Doniphan County so she started up a school in Nemaha County. In seeking her first school she met her future husband William Edwin Young. When they married the papers said, "he'd been Haled by a young school ma'am." In courting he gave her a pearl handled pen with a gold nib and she rewarded him with beautifully written love letters.
