She also served the community as a doctor and midwife, riding side-saddle on her horse to care for her ailing neighbors. Her medical skills evidently impressed at least her own family, as she had a son, Robert Wiley Mason, a grandson, John robert Mason, and two great grandsons, Hubert Odell Mason of Alexandria, and Bernice Wright of Memphis, to become doctors."
