Note: may be born feb 4? Phil, Albert, Billy, and Hazel and Margaret were in Camp Blanding Florida when Pearl Harbor was attacked (she was a nurse) Margaret married her high school sweetheart Mr. Payne who was also enlisted. She had to get out of the army because at that time couldn’t have both enlisted and marry. (according to uncle phil) mom got kicked out when she married my dad because he was an enlisted man and she was an officer. (according to Ginger Payne) Margaret moved to Texas after she and her husband both graduated from college after the war, Margaret with an MBA in nursing. (near San Antonio) Husband got a degree in engineering. While going to college already had 2 kids. One would watch them while the other went to classes and then they’d switch, both on the GI bill. First got a job with an airport (airline) in Houston. Did wrong by them so started working for the govt. Ended up in San Antonio (according to uncle phil) She became the surrogate mother for the younger kids. She and Hazel were in nursing school when their mother died. They put the four youngest kids in an orphanage but would not let them be adopted because they intended to take them out when they got jobs and could afford to. When they did get the kids out, the boys had bonded with another boy they met there, so they brought him home with them. His name is Tommy Peterson. He was always considered part of the family. We visited him and his family in Jacksonville Florida when I was nine (1956). He had two daughters, one of whom visited us in San Antonio when I was in college and my brothers were in high school. The last time I saw him was in 1970 in New Orleans. At that time he was a driver for Greyhound. (according to Ginger) Birth may have been February 4, 1910 1935 Florida Census 206 W.
