Note:   land records for Hemstead Co., Arkansas L Name F Name MI Sec No T R Acres Date HOLCOMB ROLAND T 13 12S 24W 80 1890/07/16 resided: Hope, Hemstead Co., Arkansas from (at least) dec 1879- 1901 (evidence marriage record, William's birth place, and John's birthplace from WWI draft card, and he applied for pension in 1901) His 3rd cousin's widow was his wife's mother (they were not related to each other) His 3rd cousin = Thomas Holcomb Thomas wife/widow = Nancy Moreland Nancy Moreland = Viana's mother last name spell change Holcomb on some distant or near cousins i believe he died in texas or arkansas? His parental connection is unconfirmed, conclusion drawn on the basis of the fact that we knew he was born about 1840 in Alabama, and given the rarity of the name Roland, matched to Roland Holcombe born alabama 1841--Sabrina Hand Also, apparently, David migrated to Pike Co., Arkansas aft 1860 if the Holcomb's migrated to Arkansas, this would explain how Roland got there to meet Viana just a note, Hempsted Arkansas is almost in Texas...would explain migration pattern evergreen cemetery in Orange county, TX (2 of his kids show up here, dora in 1910, and john in 1920), yep definitly: Halcomb, Rolan no dates CO H ALA INF CSA (Company H Alabama Infantry Confederate States Army) and from that i found this: Rollin Halcomb Film Number M374 roll 18 Regiment Name 26 (O'Neal's) Alabama Infantry. Side Confederate Private The Twenty-sixth Alabama infantry was organized at Tuscumbia in December, 1861. Its companies were recruited from the counties of Fayette, Marion, Walker, Winston, and the upper portions of Tuscaloosa county. (this makes sense as he was from Marion Co) and then this from a Co h roster on a rootsweb O'Neal's 26th Alabama Rolland T. Holcombe Pvt. Enlisted October 3, 1861. Detailed as nurse at #13 Hospital in Richmond, Virginia on March 13, 1863 and returned to Regiment on December 19. Present at Andersonville. He applied for pension in Hemstead County, Arkansas in 1901.
