It is speculated that this Selman/Sellmanline originates from the Selmans of the Crusades, but I have not tracedit that far. Once in the new world, John came to reside on "Covell'sFolly" plantation, a 900 acre estate in Anne Arundel Co., MD. He was amember of All Hallows Parish. Based on his will, John died 28Feb1707/08in St. Mary's City, Anne Arundel Co., MD. Burial info, as well as anymilitary record, are not known. Jonathan & Elizabeth Brashear Sellman John Sellman was born in England (probably in Shropshire) ca. 1645-1650;he immigrated to America and settled in Calvert County, Maryland, in orabout 1658, where he resided until his death, which occured on or aboutOctober 18, 1707. John Sellman was probably a youth of twelve or thirteenyears of age when he arrived in Calvert County, Maryland. He entered thecolony as a "custom servant", and seems to have been so employed for aterm of ten to twelve years. At the end of that period he obtained hisrelease, and, according to the practice of that time, probably receivedvarious articles of wearing appearel, a few farm tools and some seedcorn. He also received from the Lord Proprietor two warrants each forfifty acres of land. As his land holdings expanded John Sellman had many"custom servants" and "indentured servants" laboring in his fields andperforming various duties about his household. The will of John Sellmanwas drawn July 18, 1707, and proved February 28, 1707/08 in Anne ArundelCounty. The original document, yellowed with age, is preserved at theHall of Records, Annapolis. line originates from the Selmans of the Crusades
