Note:   �b�familytyler_1�/b� Hi Keith, My Gowan family tree is a combination of mine and my two cousins tree's.One of my cousin's now lives in Whitehaven and has compiled a lot of information about the Gowan family. I haven't been able to view your tree on Ancestry yet. But we are definitaly related. As far as l know it was decided by my great Grandfather John Gowans (1864-1937) to drop the Mac from the name. Even though as far back as Edward the Mac is gone on all the census returns l have found. He was born as Mac Gowan as l have copies of document's stating this clearly. We are not sure whether the Gowans go back to Ireland or Scotland. My Mum thought the name was changed because they faced a lot of discimination because of their nationality. Hope this helps!! MO
