Note: Note: Mildred WASHINGTON was born some time between October 1696 and March of 1698. She was married three times: firstly to John LEWIS, secondly to Roger GREG ORY and thirdly to Henry WILLIS. She died on September 5, 1747. Mildred's fir st marriage (to John Lewis) is overlooked by most sources, but it is proved b y various contemporary documents. As pointed out by P.P., George Harrison Sa nford King, Overwharton Parish Registry, 1723 Quit Rent roll, shows Mildred Le wis paying quit rent on 2,500 acres. This property is obviously Mt. Vernon: cf. the original lease in Morgan library in N.Y. City, dated 7/10/1718, where Mildred Lewis of King & Queen Co. leases 150 acres of this property [within the bounds of Mt. Vernon] to Wm Sparks of Stafford Co. on Little Hunting Cr eek in Stafford Co. This proves she was alive, proves she was a widow, and p roves she was owning this property on Little Hunting Creek where her Mt. Vern on Property lay. In Mss. Div., Libr. of Congress papers of Joseph Toner, Rog er Gregory and wife on 5/17/1726 sold Mt. Vernon Property to Augustine Washi ngton, George Washington's father.
