  EDMUND L. BROWN RITES HELD HERE.
  Funeral services for Edmund Lester Brown were held Saturday Nov. 21, 1959 at the Slininger Chaple in Jefferson, with the Rev Roy Nelson of the Free Methodist Church of Omaha in charge. Burial was in Jefferson Cemetery. Pallbearers were Homer Gunion, Vernon Gunion, Marvin Creger, roy Mosteller, Lowell Creger and Ernest Schneider, Mrs. Alta Flack and Mrs. Niles Wittforth sang "The old rugged Cross" and "The Eastern Gate," accompanied by Mrs. Curtis Wilson.
  Mr. Brown, long-time resident of Greene Co., died Nov 19th 1959 at the Greene Co. Hospital at Jefferson at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 15 days, after several years of ill health.
 He was the son of William and Louisa Gross Brown, the second child of a family of five children. Mr. Brown was born Dec 4th 1876 in a log cabin in the foot hills of what is now Denver, CO.. He came to Iowa with his parents at the age of t wo and they made their home in Dallas Co near Adel.
  When a young man the family came to Greene Co, where he has resided all his life. He was united in marriage to Nettie B. Carpenter, Jan 1st, 1900. They estabished and purchased a farm home in Dawson Township. To this union was born one daughter, Florence, now Mrs. Ward Stream. Mr Brown and his wife soon after their marriage became members of the Free Methodist Church and always remained in that faith. He was an active member in the offices of his church at Churdan until his health failed.
  His Wife, Nellie, died Oct 11, 1921. On Jan 31 1926, he was united in marriage to Eva Custer and they continued living on the farms until 1940 when he retired and moved to his home in Jefferson.
 For 10 years he drove as a salesman for Walnut Grove Mineral Company. He was a boys 4-H leader at one time. The last 10 years he hadn't been able to carry out very many activities because of his health. Proceding him in death were hi parents; his wife. Nettie; his sister. Violet Hammer and his brother William M. Brown. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Eva; his daughter and son-in-law, Florence and Ward Stream; a grandson and a grand daughter; one great grandson; twoSisters, Mrs, Lillian Brown and Mrs. Josephine Whitson, both of Jefferson.
