 STREAMS CONCLUDE FLORIDA VACATION Mr. and Mrs. Ward Stream of rural Jefferson and their son, Wendell Stream of Perry, returned just before Christmas from a trip to Florida. They had been gone since December 9th. On their trip south, they visited in the home of Dr. and Mrs. Jack Golden at Nashville Tn. Mrs. Golden is a cousin of Mrs. Stream and is the former Dorothy Outtrim. Highlights of their sightseeing while in Nashville was a visit to Hermitage, home of Andrew Jackson. In Clearwater, Florida, they stayed at a trailer court and visited Mr. and Mrs. Orville Hicks, formerly of Des Moines. They also saw Mr. and Mrs. John Mitchell of Churdan and Fred Joy of Jefferson. From Clearwater, they took a side-trip to St. Petersburg, Tampa and Guernsey City, where they visited friends. At Ft. Meyers Beach they rented a trailer, fished in the gulf and visited with their long-time friends, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Corey of Chicago, who are spending the winter there. They also spent some time in the Miami and Key West areas. At Key West, they report, it was so warm that stores had air conditioners operating. The Streams traveled down by way of the West Coast, and returned home along the East Coast as far as Cape Canaveral. Then they turned inland to Ocala and Silver Springs, where they spent some time going out on the river in glass-bottom in boats. Traveling over to the West Coast, they drove along the Gulf through Biloxi to Past Christian, viewing many southern mansions. They went on to New Orleans, Little Rock, Lake of the Ozarks and then home to Greene County. Streams vacation in the West Mr. and Mrs. Ward Stream, of Jefferson Iowa, have returned from a three week vacation to the west coast. They saw the Corn Palace at Mitchell S.D., toured around Glacier National Park and then drove to Coeur d' Alene, Idaho and visited a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Finger, who own a Mountain Ranch on Lake Coeur D' Alene. Driving through the state of Washington they met a tourist couple from Enid, Ok., who knew Leland Quigley, formerly from Churdan. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Terry Payne and family of Lynnwood, Washington, a suburb of Seattle. Terry works for Boeing Aircraft. He left Churdan when a small boy. Leaving Seattle they drove to Vancouver, British Columbia, and had a picnic at Stanley Park there. They returned to Seattle and spent two days at the World's Fair and the first morning they entered the five millionth person went through the gates. They went to Portland and Oregon City. In Oregon City they spent almost a week with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Merriam and son. The Merriams were Churdan residents a number of years ago. While there they visited Mt. Hood, "Church of the Hills", had supper at the famous "Oyster Bar", visited the Portland Zoo, saw "Packy" the famous baby elephant, and the rose gardens. While Mr. and Mrs. Stream were at the Merriam home, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Conant of Newell, Iowa also stopped to visit them. The Streams and the Merriams drove over to the Ocean front and toured the Fillamooth Cheese factory and on to Netarts where they visited Mr.and Mrs. Elmer Cross. The Streams left Oregon City and came home through the southern Oregon; Boise, Idaho, and Cheyenne Wyoming. Trip for the Streams Mrs. and Mrs. Ward Stream and Gwendolyn, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Brown returned last week from a 10 day vacation in Colorado. Going first to Denver, they visited friends in Golden, Co., saw Lookout Mountain, drove through the red rocks and visited friends of the Browns in Englewood. Mrs. Stream has several school friends in Denver and they visited with the Streams at the cabins. The party drove to Morrison, Co., where Mr. Brown was born in a log cabin and saw the valley where his parents had homesteaded years ago. They took the drive to Cripple Creek, saw the gold mining there. They also spent some time on Saddle Rock ranch about 7,000 feet up. Was nice and cool there in a log cabin. From there, they spent two days around Manitou, saw the Seven Falls, Garden of the Gods, also visiting the Frank Anderson family. From there they drove to Canon City, to see the Royal Gorge and the world's tallest bridge. They had cabins for two days in Cannon City. The party visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Kendall. Mrs. Stream and Mrs. Kendall were girl friends at Central college in McPherson, KS., and had not seen each other for 28 years. They visited with other friends while there, also the last day they went through the state penitentiary and saw the gate where the men escaped last winter. From there they started home by the way of Kansas and Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Stream visited in the home of Frank Sipes at Great Bend, KS., they visited friends of Mrs. Stream and the college where she had gone to school. They spent a night in Topeka and drove through Ft. Riley and St. Joseph, MO., and then home to the farm in Greene County. Wendell Stream New Patrolman 1953 Ward R. Stream Obituary Funeral services were held Monday, March 26, from the United Methodist Church in Churdan for Ward R. Stream, 89, longtime Churdan area resident. The Rev. Forrest Clark, pastor of the church, officiated. Sally White was organist, and there was congregational singing. Honorary casket bearers were Louis Tronchetti, Clifford Smith, Lowell Creger, Edwin Fisher, Vernon Bancroft, Vernon Gunion, Merle Outtrim, Eugene Vogel and Del Zwickey. Casket bearers were Barry Tronchetti, Dan Trochetti, Leslie Picht, Merideth Stream, Gail McDonald and Ron Toliver. Interment was in the Jefferson Cemetery. Hastings Funeral Home of Jefferson was in charge of arrangements. Ward Robert Stream, son of Harvey Oscar and Alice Janette Churdan Stream was born July 22, 1900, in Highland Township, Greene County Iowa. He died March 22, 1990, at the Long Term Care unit of the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. Ward attended rural school in Highland Township and farmed with his father east of Churdan. In 1919 Ward moved with his family to Long Beach, CA, and attended school there. He later returned and spent his lifetime in the Greene County area. On Jan. 31, 1926, Ward was united in marriage to Florence Mae Brown at the Presbyterian Church in Jefferson. They became the parents of Wendell and Gwen. The family farmed in northern Greene County at several locations, and in 1941 made their home five miles east of Churdan. They continued to live there after having a farm sale in 1964. Ward Maintained a strong and active interest in farming. December 1984 Ward and Florence moved from the farm where they had lived for 43 years to the Long Term Care Center due to failing health. Ward belonged to the Churdan United Methodist Church and after being a member fro 72 years was the oldest member at the time of his death. He was also a former member of the Farm Bureau. Ward had served as president and active member of the Independent School District Board. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Doris. Ward is survived by his wife Florence; son Wendell and his wife Donna of Woodward Iowa; daughter Gwen and her husband Jim Wolter of Polk City Iowa; six grandchildren, Douglas Stream of Biggleswade, England, JoLisa and her husband Shawn Miles of Urbandale IA, Tresa Stream of Woodward Iowa, Jone McDonald of Iowa City IA, Clint McDonald and his wife Mona of Marathon, and Chad McDonald and his wife Marilee of Jefferson; three great-grandchildren, Ryan and Tyler Miles and Mikayla McDonald and two sisters, Rhea Rider of Jefferson and Darlene Hopple of Des Moines -- Jefferson Herald March 1990. wws
