a. Note:   Eleazer Arnold married Eleanor Smith in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Her father was John Smith, "the mason" who lived, initially, in Providence and later in Warwick. He was listed as "the first president of the colony". This undoubtedly refers to Warwick where he went as a Gorton follower. He was one of the original lot owners in Warwick. He built several houses and buildings of Warwick, among which was his own house and that of Samuel Gorton. These are believed to be the only houses standing in Warwick at Gorton's death in 1677 after the town was burned during the King Philip War. This is probably because they were constructed primarily of stone.
