a. Note:   According to Arlene Krings, Jane Ellen Neel married Robert H. Strickler in Indiana in1859. In 1861, they moved to Missouri. They Lived in Missouri until the Civil War began when they moved on to Illinois. Mr. Strickler died in the Fall of 1865 as a soldier returning from the War.
 Jane Ellen then married John H. Hartwell in Illinois on November 8, 1866. The Hartwell's moved to Marysville, Kansas in 1876. Fifteen years after moving to Marysville, they moved to Jamestown, KS in the spring of 1891. Jane was John Hartwell's third wife. The 1900 US Census for Jamestown, Missouri, lists Jane as a widow with one son, Corydon, living at home. Jane is listed as a dressmaker; there is also a boarder living with them. In 1894 she wrote a family journal. Unfortunately, most of it was lost in a later flood.
