Note: The first member to live in New Mexico was Freda Mattson Sroka who in 1947 went to Silver City, New Mexico, because of the health of the two older daughters, Elaine and Janice. They were victims of ear problems aggravated by the severe weather of Minnesota. Joyce, the youngest daughter, who later married Robert Neel, and David accompanied the rest of the family. Freda's husband, Lester Sroka, remained in Minnesota and the family would return there to rejoin him in the summers. Freda Sroka entered New Mexico Western University with her two older daughters and obtained her Bachelor Degree in 1951 with the middle daughter, Janice. Freda then taught school in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico until her retirement in 1969. When she retired from teaching she moved to Bellflower, California to live with Lester and son, David.
