Notes
a. Note:   . There is a Dyer Slough on the Grapevine Lake, marking the area of the Dyer homestead. Near that slough is the Murrell Park, named after John M. Murrell. Covington had a wisdom tooth pulled, gangrene set in and this caused his death. The Census Reports: 1880 Humphreys County, TN Census ED 95, Civil Dist 15, 16 Jun 880 176 Dyer, Thos C. W M 33 Head Farmer TN TN NC Susan A W F 29 Wife Keeping House TN TN TN Julia W F 13 Dau TN TN TN Minnie W F 7 Dau TN TN TN Mary A. W F 5 Dau TN TN TN Maud E. W F 3 Dau TN TN TN John Boyd W M 1 Son TN TN TN Census taker listed Thos C. No one in the family can confirm Thomas. All other's info has Covington C. Dyer. The three columns on the right represent 1) where born,2) where father born & 3) where mother born. Julia is the daughter of Susan and her 1st husband, James Owen. 1900 Denton County, TX Census, Precinct 3, 12 June 1900 109 Dyer, Covington Head 53 Mar 1847 TN TN TN Farmer Susan Wife 47 Aug 1852 TN TN TN James V, Son 18 Jun 1887 TN TN TN Farm labor Susan M. Dau 16 Oct 1883 TX TN TN Claudine Dau 13 Mar 1887 TX TN TN At school Eddie Son 9 June 1890 TX TN TN You can see here that James V. was born in TN but Susan, Claudine and Ed were born in TX. So the family probably arrived sometime in 1883 before Susan was born. 1910 Denton County, TX Census, Precinct 3, ED 88, 5 May 1910 302 Dyer, Covington C. Head 63 TN SC SC Farmer Susan R. Wife 57 TN TN TN Edward L. Son 20 TX TN TN Farmer 1920 Denton County, TX Census, Precinct 3, ED 60, 5 Jan 1920 54 Dyer, C. C. Head 73 TN SC SC Susan Wife 66 TN TN TN Blevins, Homer Gson 15 TX TX TX Sudie Gdau 10 TX TX TX You will notice that Covington's parents were born somewhere different in all the censuses. This occurs sometimes when someone different is answering the questions. I believe the 1880 census to be correct.
Note:   Covington migrated to Denton County, TX in cir 1883. His brother-in-law, John M. Murrell, preceded him to Denton County by about 5 years. The Dyer homestead is partially under the Grapevine Lake
