a. Note:   Samuel Denis Magers, married twice. His first wife, Ella Elizabeth Kirtland, was born March 20, 1862, and died January 12, 1904. She is buried on the Kirtland plot at Logansport, Indiana, and left children, Mildred Kirtland Magers, who died January 29, 1958. She never married. Elizabeth Julia Magers, Married Elmo Arnold Robinson and lives at White Rock, Los Alamos, New Mexico; Ruth Ella, married Thomas V. Glosser and lives at Uhrichville, Ohio. The children of his second marriage to Jesse Doty were: Frederick Porter Magers, lives at Charlottesville, Virginia; Marion Jesse Magers, married but was in an auto accident with her husband and was killed November 13, 1958. She left no children of her own, but her husband had a son from a former marriage. She is buried in Memorial Garden, Concord, California. Her married name was Cartensen. Son Wendell Wright Magers died suddenly November 26, 1969, left a family. He lived in Belding, Michigan. Daughter, Ann Rosalind Magers married Paul Beebe, Jr. and lives in Cuyahaga Falls, Ohio. She has three children. Ann was born June 2, 1919, after her father's death in January 1919. Her mother Jesse Doty Magers, died in 1958. Uncle Sam died January 16, 1919, of pneumonia which followed an attack of influenza. He was at the time Professor of Biology in Northern Normal School at Marquette, Michigan. Before coming to Marquette, he taught in the Norman School in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and before that he was Principal of a Houston Texas school. Marquette's Commission Form of Government is considered the Memorial Mr. Magers left to Marquette. His daughter Mildred taught in the same college and has the honor of having a new residence hall for women named in her honor. Uncle Sam is buried in Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti, Michigan. The Northern Normal News, Marquette, Michigan February 15, 1919, carried a long and interesting write-up of his life, school and civic activities. All of his children, except Wendell, received a college education. Wendell did not want to go to college. His interest was mechanical instead of teaching.
