Note: A NOBLE WOMAN CALLED (Altamont News-January 1916) Mrs. Elizabeth Ehlers Answers the Final Call Following Brief Illness-Funeral Tuesday Although she had been in poor health for a number of months, the condition of Grandma Ehlers was not thought to be serious until last week. She failed rapidly and passed peacefully away early on Sunday morning. And thus was brought to a close a long and useful life, a life that has left its impression the family and community as well. Elizabeth Buchholz was born in Germany, December 17, 1830. Her earthly pilgrimage, therefore, was eighty five years and twenty eight days. She was married to John Ehlers when she was about twenty years old. This union was lest with two daughters and three sons, one daughter dying in infancy. The surviving children are-John Ehlers, Altamont; Mrs. Lizzie Mardoff-Altamont; Fred Ehlers-Altamont. Mr. Ehlers died on the third of April, 1870. It took heroism and courage to keep the family together, but the mother love in Mrs. Ehlers' breast and her beautiful Christian life made her equal to the occasion. Faithful to her home, true to her church and her God, her life is indeed a rich heritage to her children. She was a charter member of the German Methodist Church, and a devout Christian from early girlhood. In addition to the children, Grandma Ehlers leaves a number of grandchildren, other near relatives, and a host of friends to mourn her departure. Funeral services were conducted from the German Methodist Church yesterday afternoon following which burial took place at Union Cemetery, Rev. Spreckle, pastor.A NOBLE WOMAN CALLED (Altamont News-January 1916) Mrs. Elizabeth Ehlers Answers the Final Call Following Brief Illness-Funeral Tuesday Although she had been in poor health for a number of months, the condition of Grandma Ehlers was not thought to be serious until last week.
