Note: Funeral services Were held for Mr. Fred Ehlers on Wednesday, January 9, from the Methodist church with Rev. J. N. Presley officiating and Rev. Fred C. Mery assisting, Burial was in Union Cemetery. Fred Ehlers, son of Johann Christian and Elizabeth (nee.:Buchholz) Ehlers was born May 10, 1867, on the old home place north of Altamont and had therefore reached the age of 79 years, 7 months and 26 days at the time of his passing on January 6, 1946, following an illness of several weeks. his father passed away when he was two and half years of age, leaving four small children to be reared by the mother, who able took the place of both parents. he was married on December 26, 1918, by the late Rev. Rademacher at the Herman Gieseking residence, to Miss Emma Klocke, daughter of Henry and Johanna (nee: Auf der Heide) Klocke of Quincy, Illinois . During all their married life they lived on the old Ehlers home place. To this union one child Miriam Gertrude (Mery) was born. Mr Ehlers was a member of the German Methodist church all of his life until that church disbanded, at which time he joined the First Methodist church and was a regular attendant until his health failed. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers, Namely Mrs Elizabeth Schumacher, John and henry Ehlers and is survived by his devote wife and daughter, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. As a citizen, neighbor and friend, his life was exemplary and consistent with the high Christian standards which governed his dealings with and attitude toward others.
