SOURCE: Origins of the Shuford Family in America by David Wilson Shuford From David Shuford's PAF: "Johan Jerg Schuffert brought his family from Germany to America on the brigantine "Richard and Elizabeth", landing in Philadelphia on September 28, 1733 (by the old [Julian] calendar). He subsequently settled in Berks County, Pennsylvania, where he and his family lived until approximately 1755, when they moved to western North Carolina. His son, Johannes Schuffert, (John Shuford), became the father of the Shuford family in North Carolina. Two married daughters were left behind in Pennsylvania when the family moved to North Carolina: Elizabeth and Maria. "Gertrud: The Doctor Julius Shuford book mentioned that Rody, listed in the will of George Shuford, was a different wife than Gertrud. I disagree and I now only show one wife for Johan Jerg Schuffert. I feel "Rody" is a diminutive of "Gertrud" and that they are one and the same person." note: Information on birth records were derived largely from a book by Annette Kunselman Burgert, published in 1997, entitled: "Eighteenth Century Emigrants from Langenselbold in Hesse to America".
