Note: *Obituary, Portsmouth Daily Times, Wednesday, September 16, 1942 - Sarah Frances Holmes - Mrs. Sarah Frances Holmes - Mrs. Sarah Frances Holmes, 72 of 1315 Grandview Avenue, widow of Alexander Holmes, passed away at 9:25 a.m. today at her home after an illness of three years. Mrs. Holmes suffered a heart attack Sept. 1 and her condition had been serious since that time. She was born Aug. 9, 1863, at Siloam, a daughter of John and Dorothy Sworn Smith. Reared in Siloam, she moved to Portsmouth in 1903. Mrs. Holmes was married April 21, 1881, to Alexander Holmes at Ironton. Mr. Holmes preceded her in death in 1925. The last of a family of six children. Mrs. Holmes was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene at Third and Brown streets. Five of her children preceded her in death. She is survived by four children, John Holmes of Columbus, Mrs. Rosie Rose of Bradenton Fla., Mrs. Florence Bloomfield of Minford, and Mrs. Clearence Kehoe, 1315 Grandview Avenue, 22 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. W.R. Gilley officiating. The body will remain at the residence. Burial will be in charge of Windel Howland.
