1. Title:   Divorce Decree/RolandZache

Notes
a. Note:   N54 A difficult man to live with, he married and had two sons, who he treated poorly. His wife divorced him and then married her sister-in-law’s husband, a family “scandal.” Roland, who then worked for Cutler Hammer as a draftsman (helping to design such things as the automatic pin picker-upper in bowling alleys) , traveled extensively in his later years, taking thousands of pictures of his travels. He took a year off from work in the late ‘50’s to drive south through Mexico and toured the entire continent of South America, sleeping in his car much of the time, and even having to be locked into gas station compounds for the night for fear of banditos. He would mount his glass slides himself and bring them to his brother Art’s house for viewing on a Friday or Saturday night. He moved into his sister Nat’s upstairs apartment after he retired. His death was unfortunate - he had a stroke while she was in Hawaii, his body fell by a heater during the end of December, and was not discovered until she returned nine days later. The fire department had to carry the body out in a basket.
b. Note:   N201 On Nat’s husband (Ray) and Roland’s wife (Helen) having an affair and causing both couples to divorce:
Believe me, Sharon. I know VERY little about the Zache family. We were just married at that time and EVERYTHING was a big secret. No one was allowed to say anything to Nat - I think even her mother was sworn to secrecy. When I asked your dad about anything, he would just say that was Nat's business and he wouldn't comment on it. It was also a very tricky thing with him, because he still had to deal with Ray Lorch at various meetings, and that really got Nat upset. Plus the fact that Roland's boys didn't want to have anything to do with him, so that caused more problems for the whole Zache family - sort of like Amy and Matt. I never once saw Bob or Doug with their dad, but I know as the years went by, Roland connected with Douglas and his family, but Bob would never even speak to Roland or let him visit his children. The whole thing was very sad. I always thought Roland was sorry for whatever his actions were to his boys, and for the fact that he never saw them. I also think he tried to make up for it in a little way by buying you and Rob nice gifts for Christmas and birthdays. Who knows? All I know is that the whole situation with Ray and Helen left a lot of hurt and bitterness that never went away.
