Notes
a. Note:   John Henry was better known as "Nade" Riddle. He was a very outgoing fellow and made friends easily and seemed to enjoy company. He was a kind-hearted person who went out of his way to help others. He liked to give baskets of fruit to the neighbors at Christmastime; anonymously if possible. He was a carpenter and built homes and businesses for which he was never paid but would not ask for the money, saying, "those folks must need it more than I do". He lived by the creed that a man's word was his bond. He and his family were among the first settlers in Quemado Valley in Maverick County, Texas near Eagle Pass. He helped others settle there, including "Bud" Wilks and his wife, Anna Lizzie. Their son, Luther Wilks, married the youngest Riddle girl, Ruby. He loved to go fishing and hunting and would invite everyone to his house for a fish fry or some venison. On the 1880 Comanche County, Texas Census, he is listed as John H.G. Riddle, age 3. Various family members have said his third name was either Kernaith, Carnathan or Carnade, but more than likely it was Grenade after his father; this was possibly a family name handed down to him but we have no proof of that. Copy of marriage records in possession of Doris Moore. Marriage license # 740 in Coalgate, Indian Territory. Marriage performed by J.C. Miller, minister. Poll tax list 1927 Crane County, Texas lists J.H. Riddle on page 285 and Roy Riddle on page 286. Poll tax list 1928 Crane County, Texas lists J.H. Riddle on page 290 and Roy Riddle on page 291. John Henry and family are on the 1900 Choctaw Nation census, now Oklahoma. In 1920, they are found in Briscoe County, Texas living near Clinch and Lizzie Huggins, John G. and Melissa Riddle, and Edward and Texia M. Ward.
