Notes
a. Note:   Nancy Jane Huggins Riddle was a great storyteller and some of her grandchildren would beg for her to tell them more stories about "the old days" and how she danced with the Indians. She was a frugal lady and liked to save for that proverbial rainy day. When the family went to the oil fields at Crane, Texas, she opened a laundry there and not trusting banks, hid her money in baking powder cans and buried them. When the depression came and her husband and children thought all was lost she showed them the money she had saved; it was enough to get them through some very lean years of the depression. She was in the habit of retiring early and getting up before daybreak. On Monday mornings, her laundry would be already on the line before most folks were even out of bed. She lived a simple life but appeared to be very happy.
