Note: According to Lillie Mae Vick Tucker, granddaughter," Wesley owned quite a bit of land and also owned slaves. He was in the CSA and was discharged somewhere in North Carolina and had to walk all the way to Lawenceburg, Tennessee." He served in the 53rd Tn Inf, Co. I. An application for pension was filed July 23, 1892 but was rejected. In it he states he was unable to work due to Rheumatism he says he acquired during the war. He states he was exposed to bad weather with no shelter and spent time in the swampy area. His doctor stated his affliction was equivalent to the loss of an arm and leg. One of the affidavits of known service was signed by W.C. Brackeen who said he served in the same unit with Wesley Vick. Obviously, the family knew Will Bracken from at least the early 1860's and was a family friend for many years when he married Louisa Jane Vick Wilks in 1885. The application also stated Wesley's wife, Martha "Betty" Beal was blind and had been for a matter of years. It is not known at this time how long Wesley lived after July 1892. On 1850 Federal Census for Giles County, Tennessee: Vick, Wisley J., age 29, Vick, Martha J., age 25 Vick, Louisa J. age 7 Vick, A.A., age 4 Giles -222-843 from index. On 1860 Federal Census for Giles County, Tennessee: Vick, Wesley, age 39 Vick, Martha, age 38 Vick, Elvy, age 15 Vick, Willis, age 9 Vick, Rebecca A. age 1 Giles -73-37 (Louisa Jane was obviously already married by 1860; there is a William A. Wilkes with wife, Jane in Giles Co. but dates show her to be 22 instead of 18; Confederate pension file dates show her to be born 1841). On 1870 Federal Census for Marshall County, Tennessee: Dwelling #185 Vick, Wesley J., age 50, farmer, born in Tn. Vick, Martha J., age 47, housewife, born in Tn. Vick, Alva, age 23, born in Tn. Vick, Willis, age 20, farm laborer, born in Tn. Vick, John age 8, born in Tn. Date of enumeration: 21 June 1870, Marshall County, 13th Civil District, Moorsville P.O., page 171.
