Notes
a. Note:   The Franklin County Order Book of 1793-1799 disclosed that Minor Wilkes was, for some reason exempted from paying future county and Parish levies. On September 7, 1807, Minor purchased about 300 acres of land from his father. Consideration was "for love and affection he has for him" and $1.00. This land had been part of the original Henry County land grant to his grandfather Minor Wilkes, Sr. Minor migrated to Tennessee with other Wilkes. He was living there in 1825 , for on Jul 18th of that year there was recorded the following: "Know all men that I, Minor Wilkes, Sr. of Mary County, Tennessee for and in consideration of the love I have for my father John Wilkes and to the end that justice be done; I do hereby relinquish my right, title and interest in and to certain propery hereafter to be named which was was conveyed to my by my father John Wilkes of Franklin\klin County, Virginia and now on record there the property first deed and now returned by virtue of this bond - 1 Negro woman Else and her offspring, 1 Negro man Dick, 1 Negro woman Lydia and her offspring and all other property in the deed of gift: Witnesses William Wilkes, Cynthia Wilkes. This record evidently speaks of the 300 acre purchase of 1807. It is not known why Minor returned the land; but it may be that he could not manage it from Tennessee. It is peculiar, too, that John Wilkes, whose land holdings could not have been too great to start with, conveyed such a large parcel to this one son. Perhaps the other children considered the transaction unjust and Minor relinquished his right to the land so that "justice be done". After his wife Lucy passed away, Minor married Mary Meese, the widow of Adam Meese. It is not known when or where they married. Minor's will, which he wrote on December 10,, 1828 was recorded September 1, 1829 in Maury County, Tennessee.
