Notes
a. Note:   Maiden name possibly Strickland. Fatha got a land grant in Abbeville District in 1798 and died there (South Carolina). Joseph and Fatha are the progenitors of the Vicks of Giles County, Tn. Fatha is possibly a variant of Faithy. According to John Beatty, Vick family historian, this name was used a lot in the Strickland family and a Strickland family lived next door to Joseph in Nash County, North Carolina. Also, there were Stricklands who witnessed her will in Abbeville District, South Carolina so there is a possible connection to the Stricklands in Nash County. I found a Faith Strickland who was born 13 August 1767 in Nash County, North Carolina; parents are Jacob Strickland and Priscilla Young. It is not known at this time if these people are her parents. Her will has been transcribed in Willie Pauline Young's book, "Abstracts of Old Ninety Six and Abbeville District Wills and Bonds", Easley, SC; Southern Historical Press, 1977, p.330. Partial abstract obtained from Kathleen Bell who lives in Russellville, Pope County, Arkansas and has a connection through the Strickland line. Fatha's son, Howell was married to Winnie Strickland. Original spelling intact: 2d. "Bequeathed to my Sun Jonas what land that belongs to me on the west side of Cherokee rode". 3d. "To my son Cullin the rest of my land where on I now live" 4. "I also alow my daughter Sarah to have maintainanace out of the land that I leave Cullin while she remains single." 5. "I also leave Sarah my mare....bonna and the colte she now is with. I leave to Cullin the bed I now lion." 6. I also leave Sarah a bed and Jonas a bed and Wilson a bed and Howell a bed and the rest of my property to be sold and all....Jonas and Cullin hole and sole Executors of this my last will..... Witnesses were Ethel Tucker, James Nickles and Delila H. Hall. Also a legacy was paid to the following people: John Cain, Joseph Vick, Joal Vick, Benjamin Vick, Wilson Vick, Sarah Vick, Howell Vick and Cullen Vick, the inventory of the estate was Ethel Tucker and Nathan Strickland.
