a. Note:   that he was born in Scotland on Jan, 3, 1750 and came to America as achild (his oath being dated Nov. 17, 1832 as a resident of PickensDist., SC) aged 82 years. That he entered the service of the UnitedStates of America under Col. Neal who was under Gen. Williamson, Capt.Kirkpatric Militia Officer, in the year 1776 continuing about 12months was in pursuit of unfriendly Indians at different times, nextvolunteered with Capt. Jamison, who was under Sumter and continuedwith Sumter until the close of the war. Was transferred from Capt.Jamison, to Capt. John Kirpatric's Co., engaged wholly in SC inbattles at Rocky Mountain, Hanging Rock, and at Blackstock on theTyger River (where Gen. Sumter received a wound) at Shadrick'splantation where Gen. Sumter and Marion were present. At Hanging Rockhe received a bullet through his clothing in a small skirmish he wasknocked down with a gun which injured his head, was taken prisoner,two horses and 39 Guineas being taken from him, recovered only onehorse and no money. he served from York Districts, SC and lived inPendleton and Pickens District, SC. Pension refers to John Craig andThomas Hamilton (his brother) as to his services. Audley Hamilton (norelationship) as a character witness on Dec. 3, 1832. Certificate of pension of $80.00 per year was issued to David April 8,1833. David died Nov. 7, 1837. David Hamilton (#2) Will David Hamilton Estate of David Hamilton Box #89 Probate Judge office Pickens S.C. I David Hamilton being far advanced in my time of life and frail butof sound mind and memory etc. I give to my wife Jane two beds andtheir furniture, the Plantation and house on which I live, and onehalf of the amount of the sale of my property. I give to my sonAndrew Hamilton one hundred and eight acres on which he now lives forhis support but not subject to his disposal or debts, but to be theproperty of my grandson Alexander Hamilton, his son in fee simple. Igive to my two granddaughters Margaret and Jane Hamilton a tract ofland on golden Creek of 38 acres. It is my will that my personalproperty be sold on twelve months credit, except my Man Cegar, not tobe sold but live with my children, not as a slave. Also my womanMalinda to stay with my wife during her life time, she also may choosethe one of my children she wishes to live with, not as a slave. Atthe death of my wife the Plantation to be sold and divided and, onethird to my daughter Margaret Prater and one third to MaryKirkpatric's, the remaining third to my granddaughters Margaret andJane Hamilton. After my debts are paid the balance as thirty dollarsto each of my children, Elizabeth Perron, Andrew Hamilton, David L.Hamilton, Mary Kirkpatric's, Margaret Prater and Bersheba Fraser. Iappoint Major Andrew Hamilton, Col. David K. Hamilton, Thomas G.Boggs, my step-son as Executors. Dated 20 Feb. 1840. Wit: J. L.McCann, Fielding Fennell, Rev. McCann, D. Chamblin. Signed: David Hamilton, Seal. N.B. The forgoing last will and Testament of David Hamilton was not provenby a subscribing Witness as is usual, they being absent from theState. Proven on oath of Col.
