a. Note:   Jacob Zehler came to America in 1856 along with his parents. About 1874, Jacob married Magdalena Kreib. Initially, they apparently settled in Attica, N.Y., and later moved to Buffalo, N.Y. While still living in Attica, Jacob changed the spelling of his name to SAILER (SAYLOR in the 1880 census). His descendants indicate this was to increase his chances of finding work.
