a. Note:   Floyd Zahler was the only son of Fred and Alice Zehler. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Martin Tharnish. On Valentines day 1900, he married Wilhelmine 'Minnie' Merlau. Initially, they lived in Strykersville, N.Y., but soon moved to Sardinia, N.Y. where Floyd Zahler operated a dairy farm. Floyd and Minnie had three children , one of whom died young.
