Note: The father of Antonin Zhanel was an unknown person in the area of Prague. Marie Zhanel was his servant, and the family story is that this man raped Marie, and the child Antonin was the result. Marie gave Antonin her surname. She immigrated to the U.S. with her uncle Tomas Zhanel and sons Antonin and Jan. Antonin immigrated to the U.S. on the S.S. Hannover, which departed from Bremen, Germany. He arrived December 31, 1901. ------------------------- Q1: Where is Maehren (Moravia)? In 1938 Germany annexed the Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia. In 1939-1945 Maehren was declared part of a protectorate of Germany. Maehren was cleansed of its ethnic German population in 1945.
