Note: following notes from his son Edward: Came to the USA in August 3, 1916 on a russian passport. The nameof the ship was Rulliche Amerida Linie (agent Ruys & Co., Rotterdamand A.E. Johnfon & Co., 27 Broadway N.Y.). He went through EllisIsland as did the rest of my family (my mother age 15, Edna age 11-12,Wanda (Cha Cha) age 13 and Chester age 16. religion: catholic. He usually prayed at night with the rosary. He sent us to Sunday school with our mother, although he did notattend himself. For his time, he was a well educated man havingthe equivalent of a high school diploma from Russia. In Russia thosedays you had to pay to go to school. But his parents were well offdairy farmers. His english was excellent and he did not have an accentunlike his wife (who had one throughout her life). Sent over by the Russian Czar to be a government inspector of an ammunitionand gun factory leased from the U.S. government.. U.S. later terminatedall lease aggreements with Russia during the Russian revolution. However, instead of going back to Russia, he decided to stay in theUSA. However, his brother went back to Poland because he was "lovesick". When his brother returned to Poland he found out his girlfriendwas already marry. Peter called his brother stupid for going backto Poland. Peter always said that the USA was a good country. He first met Francis (future wife) at a polish picnic in Thompsonville,Connecticut. Later he optained a liquor license, and opened a bar and cafe. Halso sold real estate on the side and became very prosperous. Thecafe was located on North Main Street (which was knocked down whilebuilding the interstate route 91). Sold the business in 1946 becausehe became sick. He had stomach cancer, but died while sitting ina chair in the waiting area of Springfield Hospital while talkingto his son Edward, daughter Wanda and his wife Francis. According to his son Edward "I did not know him well since he workednights, and I went to school during the day." My father bought many cars: his first was a 1931 (32) Essex. Healso bought a 1936 and a 1937 Dodge, then a 1939 and 1941 Buick ($1,200). He also bought a 1941 Dodge for my sister Wanda for US $1,100, This car was also used by my mother and sister Mattie. He also bougha used 1937 Ford for me. My father had a lot of wisdom. My father had a friend who came over from Russia with him (Tomervicz??)who lived in Patterson, N.J. I went with my father to N.J. to seehim. Nice man, never maried. He took us to the N.Y. World's Fair in 1939, which was a big thingin those days. He made an application with the state department to visit Poland in1938 (with Wanda, Edna, his wife, and his daughter Mattie). He toldme that I was too young to go, and he was planning to leave me withmy grandmother. They were all set to go, when they received a letterfrom the war department stating that it was not safe to travel there. Shortly afterward, Germany invaded Poland. It broke his heart, since he wanted to see his family, and both his parents were stillliving. At that time, they were still in contact through letterswith their relatives in Poland.
