Rimutaka ======================= The New Zealand Shipping Company's R.M.S.S Rimutaka, Captain E. A. Hallet R.N.,commander, arrived from London, via Port Chalmers, at six o'clock this morning, and was berthed at number 4 Wharf at 10 am. The vessel left Plymouth at 1.45 pm on Feb.14.and,after a flue weather passage, arrived at Medeira at 5.30 am on Feb.18. Coaled and left again the same day at 11,43 am. Had fair N. and N.E. weather to line. Took the S.E. Trades on the line, in S.W..long. Carried these strong to the Cape, arriving there at 11.19 am on March 5. Time to Cape, 18 days 20 hours 50 minutes, less 6 hours and 15 minutes detention at Madeira, making the net run to the Cape, 18 days 20 hours 50 minutes, a smart performance. Left the Cape at 11.20 pm on March 5, and the whole way across the Southern Ocean had S.E to E and N.E winds and moderate seas,until approaching the Snares, when the wind veered to the westward with grey misty weather until arrival at Taiaroa heads,Port Chalmers,at 2.30 pm on March 26. Total time of voyage 39 days 18 hours 13 minutes. Nett time, 38 days 19 hours 27 minutes. The passage is therefore, one of the best on record. The Rimutaka was busily engaged immediately on arriving in discharging passengers' luggage, and coaling. Her mails were also discharged, the Northern portion being sent on to Wellington in the S.S. Mabinapua. The Rimutaka brings a large number of passengers ( over 300) including 184 nominated immigrants, amoungst whom were 57 single girls. All the passengers were in excellent health throughout the passage, no births or deaths being reported. The Rimutaka on completion of her coaling was to sail for Auckland, and is expected to leave about 10 o'clock to-night.
