The late Mrs Mary Hooper,who death occurred at her resident, Allnutt Street, onTuesday last,at the age of 75 yrs was 1 of a band of Canterbury pioneers who Came to NZ in the sailing ship Clontarf landing at Lyttleton 73 yrs ago when She was a child of 2 yrs.her parents were the late William and Ann Chapman and after landing her father entered employ of G G Tripp at Peel Forest as a Gardener. Later, the family came to Temuka where Mrs Hooper resided for 52 Yrs. Her husband was Thomas Francis Hooper, who predeceased her 17 yrs ago and who at one period was president of the Temuka Caledonian Society.Mrs Hooper was a native of Winsford, Somerset and an adherent of the Anglican Church. She led a quiet life,and rarely public functions,but was much respected by a wide circle of acquaintances.
