He died at his home Resdience 15 Allnatt Street,Temuka aged 79 Years 11 Months. We have to record with sincere regret the death of Mr. William Chapman, known for many years in Temuka and with no semblance of disrespect but rather in all Honour as "Daddy" Chapman. The late Mr. Chapman was fully entitled to his Familiar title as he was responsible for a large number of children & Grandchildren, the majority of whom have identified themselves with Temuka.He was an early settler, having landed from the ship Clontarf in Lyttleton on Jan 6 th,1859.He was born on Jan 17th 1821 at the village of Winiehead, in Somersetshire, in England. On landing he adopted ordinary colonial pursuits, and was for 11 years engaged in trustworthy capacity at the Hon JBA Aclands station, Mt Peel. On leaving the station he took up some land at Temuka. The late Mr Chapman leaves a widow,5 sons,3 daughters,51 grandchildren and 10 great Grandchildren. Mrs. Chapman ( for many years invalided),(but who survived her husband)as well as all relations, are entitled to every sympathy. The funeral takes place today leaving the late residence of deceased at 2:30 pm.
