Note: s from the Allendale area of Northumberland, England, who had been been blacklisted following an industrial dispute. The intended destination of these lead- miners was the lead-mining areas of south-western Wisconsin and north-western Illinois. Samuel Vickers and family are known to have settled in New Diggings, Lafayette County, Wisconsin. George Philipson also settled briefly in the same town, but by early 1853 he was in California and by the end of the same year he had moved on to Victoria, Australia. Nothing is known of the other members of the party after their arrival in New York. Passengers on the Emigrant Ship "Guy Mannering" Sailed from Liverpool on May 22nd 1849; arrived New York, June 28th. The Guy Mannering was launched in March 1849 at New York and this was her first east-west voyage. The captain was William Edwards.
