Note: Jacob's tombstone is inscribed as J. Wilson Monnett. He is buried next to his wife and two of their small children. Obit: Oct. 29, 1941 Jacob Wilson Monnett, 88, retired Baltimore & Ohio railroad fireman, died Wednesday at 11:30 p.m. in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wallace B. Melick, 748 Hudson avenue. He had been ailing the past three years and seriously ill a week. Mr. Monnett was a native of Licking county, born Feb 26, 1853, in Madison township. His parents were Joseph and Keren (Artz) Monnett. In his early life he taught school in Fairfield and Licking counties and came to Newark 52 years ago from Kirkersville. He spent 40 years in the B & O service as a fireman and retired in February 1928. Mrs. Monnett, former Isa Dora Emswiler, whom he married Nov 3, 1881, died Jan 18, 1921. Two sons and also deceased and his daughter Mrs. Melick survives. The body will remain at Criss Brothers funeral home and funeral services will be held in the chapel there Saturday at 10 a.m. Rev. L. C. Sparks will officate and burial will be made in Kirkersville cemetery.
