Note: (per Hammond Times obit) "William J. Scheffki, 76, of DeMotte, IN, passed away at his residence on Thursday, July 10, 1997. Born July 4, 1921 in Calumet City, IL. to the late John and Pauline Marshall Scheffki. Married Rose Nocek in East Chicago, IN., who survives. Also survived by son, William (Patricie) Scheffki of Mequon, WI; daughters, Andrea (Steven) Adams of New Zealand and Roseann (James) Spoto of Oaklawn, IL; grand children, William Scheffki III, and James Jr. and Samantha Spoto; sisters, Florence Mehorczyk of Harvey, IL., Emily Falat and Corrine Eley, both of Calumet City, IL. Preceded in death by parents, three sisters and three brothers. Friends may call 3 to 8 P.M. Sunday, July 13, 1997 at Jackson Funeral Service in DeMotte, Indiana. Funeral services at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in DeMotte, IN. on Monday, July 14, 1997 at 10 a.m. with Father Paul Wicklum officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois. Mr. Scheffki was a resident of DeMotte for 13 years, and lived in East Chicago, IN. and Calumet City, IL. He attended Thornton Fractional High School. He was a machinest for Euclid Machine & Tool for 10 years. A U.S. Navy veteran, Jr. Vice Commander of VFW #11295 and member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of DeMotte. Memorials may be given to the family."
