Note: (per St. Casimir baptismal records) Maria was born 9-30-1899, baptized 10-1-1899. Godparents were Val Lewandowski / Pelagia Zasada. (per Jackie Hayes) Val Lewandowski was the godfather. I found him in 1910 in Thornton Twp. (ED#1544, Sheet 24). He lived at 414 State Line Street. He was 44 so b.c. 1866. He'd been married for 24 years to Maryanna who was 45. They were born in Poland, obviously married there and their oldest child, John was born there c. 1888. They immigrated in 1888 so John must have been a newborn. Their other four kids were born in Indiana. I wonder if this Valentin (name on the 1910 census) is actually the William from the 1891 Hammond City Directory. I remember that Valentine Jaranowski started using the name William in his later years. That could explain the fact that those four kids were born in IN. The oldest was 19 and the youngest was 3 in 1910 so we know the family was in Indiana between 1891 and 1907. And, to further add to the proof that this is the right guy - in 1900 Frank & Frances were in a two family flat. The tenants of the other unit were Val & Marcana Levandofski. Mary's godmother was Pelagia Zasada. I am curious if this is the wife of Albert Zasada ( Joseph & Katarzyna's son). I just looked at a translation guide for Polish names and it states that the name Pelagia has no English equivalent but is often rendered as Pearl of Paulina. Albert was still alive when Mary was born (he died the following year) and we do know that on the 1900 census Albert's widow was listed as Paulina. She then went and changed her name to Lillian by 1920. Unfortunately it's just speculation but this makes a lot of sense. The time, place and family relationship is perfect. Funeral at St. Andrew Church and burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, both in Cal City, IL.
